John Spooner's brilliant wit has sparked many a newspaper page. In his superb illustrations he has commented on and illuminated everything from politics to economic rationalism to war, from human relationships to animal rights, from reconciliation to the peculiarities of medicine and the law. With images at once surprising and immediately recognisable, his take on each subject has the unerring touch of a master.

As Robert Manne writes, 'I was struck, as always, by Spooner's exuberance, zest and visual inventiveness, but also by his astonishing capacity to use images to embody thought.'

John Spooner is also a fine artist and this book includes some of his spectacular printmaking.

With its personal commentary, A Spooner in the Works will entertain and delight, engaging the mind while enchanting the eye.

Praise for A Spooner in the Works:

'A must for those interested in what a clear eye and an honest mind sees in our contemporary political landscape.'

West Australian

'He draws with a deceptively delicate touch, his line sliding easily into sharp exaggeration and bleak caricature. His lucent watercolour washes create eerie effects of grotesque distortion and shadows signifying moral darkness.'

Age

'John Spooner's brilliant wit has lit up many newspaper pages. With images that are both surprising and immediately recognisable, his unique take on all subjects has the unerring touch of a master. This book is entertaining and delightful, engaging the mind while enchanting the eye.'
