Aeneas Macdonald was the pseudonym of George Malcolm Thomson. He was author of some twenty well-regarded books and died in 1996. Whisky was published in 1930, under the pseudonym Aeneas MacDonald, which he never used again, in deference to his mother. His family were strict teetotallers and he did not wish to offend her sensibility on the subject.
